Mrs. Olson's Class

Welcome to Calculus.

You will have an exciting semester as we study limits, derivatives, and integrals.  One of the primary goals of this course is to develop your understanding of calculus concepts using a multi-represetational approach: geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally.  These approached will be learned and preformed both with and without the use of a calculator.

As with any math course, mastery of the prerequisite knowledge is essential to success in subsequent math courses.  Prior to calculus you are expected to have studied and mastered the concepts and their applications from algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and elementary functions.  If you do not have these skills you will find that you will be getting problems incorrect even though you understand the concepts of calculus.  These are skills that are continuously used in Calculus.  Students are notoriously weak in these areas, even students who have achieved well prior to calculus.

You are encouraged to collaborate with your classmates.  Remember two brains are better than one….and sometimes you will need four or five.

I am looking forward to a wonderful semester.  Let’s have some FUN!!!!!!!!
